मायानगरी
"So, what will you do there, you don't even have a job?" my father asked me. Seating on his old round-chair, clearing his specs with a white handkerchief.
I remembered that single moment, I was
sweating like I did something terrible, though I didn't do anything wrong. I
did even worse, asked him permission to go to 'Bombay'.
"I will find one, there will be
lots of opportunities...!!" these were my exact words, lack of confidence
and completely lame!!
And after a few weeks, I am in Mumbai.
Hoping for a better future, proving myself in the crowd of hundreds and thousands
of people, finding the best job which any fresher have ever dreamt of.
The story of every mechanical/mechatronics
engineering freshers, Starting with 'Multinational companies' like Honda,
Suzuki etc. After a few days, stepping down to Indian companies like Tata, Bajaj,
Jindal. After a few weeks later little more stepping down to Hanuman Gear
manufacturer and Pradeep metal fabrication and then after a few months later, he
has reached that level that he is happy to do a job at Global InfoTech BPO
or parasmani cafe/bar.
I was in the fourth stage in the second
week only. Instead of applying parasmani I applied at cafe coffee day. The
reason behind was clear that ‘At least I can stay in air conditioning for the whole day'. But sadly I haven't got a response from that job too.
So, one day in the evening around 5 pm I
was standing at the Thane station. I was waiting for my train. Tired, disappointed,
frustrated, and almost lost, thinking about going back to my hometown. One
thing about losing is that the stepping back option is most comfortable for you. I
was thinking, ‘why am I doing this? My father running a business of printing
which has been long for 100 years. It’s not a business, it's legacy'. Another
thing about losing that is your mind would be work as a philosopher and almost
convince you at its best philosophical way.
I was waiting for a train for too long. So,
I asked the gentleman who is standing near me...
"Anna, when the train will arrive
for Dadar?"
HE looked at me in a strange way,
"Are you new in this city, a young
boy?" He asked me.
"Yes" I reposted
He smiled and said to me, “Do not take
this train, wait for the next one after it, it will come after 15-20
minutes"
I was totally surprised, I asked him,
“WHY?"
"Just wait and watch...!!!"
After 2 minutes one train had come
towards the platform. You couldn't find out the answer to where is the train? It was
full of man crowd. Each compartment has 80-100 people. People were hanging
on the support of whom even they had not had an idea about it. As per my
calculation, if you wanted to come down, you have to come before three stations
earlier. Almost Forty people came down from the single compartment and more
than forty people ascended to that compartment. Even Aryabhata couldn't figure
out how could they fit in this place?
I was completely flabbergasted by this
seen.
I asked that gentleman, “How one can
survive like this?"
He smiled, patted my shoulder and
told me,
"WELCOME TO BOMBAY” and went away
for catching his train.
I still remember his expression. These people who have only one hope that if I will Work hard now, the future of
They will be very good. For that, some of them are doing the worst job of a few
thousand in the factory, listen to the slummy bad words from their owners every
day, live in the places which do smell worst even than hell, eat food which
is not eaten by street dogs.
But I have seen their faces. They
had smiles on their faces. They have their own moments like making fun of
their friends in the compartment, reading a newspaper even in that crowd in the
early morning, taking part in the deep conversation of the Indian cricket team's current situation, or giving expert advice on how Modi shall run this country!!
And Finally, I realized that positivity
doesn't come from the book. It is around me. People are struggling they are
facing new problems every day but still surviving and not giving up.
And I think that's why it is called thr city that never stops...!!
That's how life of bombay is.... It Seems lovely and at the same time seems like the toughest place to survive...
