Hulla ‧ Comedy music/Drama ‧ 1h 47m
Initially, I was sceptical about this recommendation. "Hulla" is a film about a share broker who moves into a 2-bedroom flat in Goregaon, where he meets the strange building secretary who has some typical rules about security, such as whistling through the night. That obscureness affects everything in our protagonist's life, including his ability to sleep at night. The story of this movie is what happens afterwards!
There is something very specific to Mumbai that prompted me to be sceptical about this movie. I don't know about other cities, but in Mumbai, you can notice something new is being built, and something old is being demolished every day. Whenever you look around you can see something being built, whether it's the roads, bridges or metros. In some cases, it is hard to recall the same place which was beautiful a few years ago. For example, many people live very close to a train station, and you can hear the horn continuously blowing from four in the morning to two in the night. We might wonder why these guys would sleep amidst chaos if they are immersed in constant noise?
I think the whistle could be interpreted as a metaphor for the entire situation. You may have to endure the noise for the better future of your country, just as they say in a movie that for the safety of the building you must awaken that way and god knows when all these things will end.
Getting back to this movie, It has a brilliant cast, and they all have distinctive influences on the audience. There are several hilarious scenes in the film. The second half of the movie has many people upset, but it seems very natural to me, sure, there are some loopholes, and sometimes it seems very slow, but other than that I believe people should see this movie because of its unique concept!
This film is available on Amazon Prime. Please let me know how you like the recommendation in the comments!
Cheers!
