Shor in the City ‧ Drama/Bollywood ‧ 1h 52m
From Ganesh Chaturthi to Visarjan, Mumbai can be especially alluring. Noise is one of the parts of charisma. There are only a few times in which the whole city is celebrating something of great importance, such as the pilgrimage of the Visrajan yatra, concerts, street dances, or Aartis in various pandals. In this movie, Krishna D.K. [One of the famous duets of Family Man fame Raj and DK] captures these moments beautifully.
Shor in the City is about a guy who owns a business of pirating books that are sold on signal sites, and his two friends who are minor criminals, the story revolves around a guy who just returned from the United States to start a small business and is subjected to local goons taunting him and his lover for extortion money, it is the story about the ambitious aspiring cricketer who wants to get selected in Mumbai Cricket team but the official has to bribe him to get the place in the team, is it all? I don’t think so. This may seem like the protagonists, but in a way, I'd like to put it this way: as much as the film relies on the protagonists, its first focus is on the wife of the bookseller who just moved in with her husband, As much as the lover of the cricketer whose family is a constant source of struggle, who would like her to marry any Tom, Dick, or Harry, and as much as Tapu Bhai who has hundreds of businesses including providing manpower for various protests, running illegal businesses.
This film holds special significance to me since I seldom see films where I am enamoured with every character. Each one is given a special significance in this film. The city as well plays its part beautifully. I couldn't get myself to stop falling in love with this city again when they showed different parts of the city so beautifully. For Mumbaikars, noise is an important part of their daily lives. Since this movie has genuinely caught my attention, I honestly cannot recall why I haven't seen it yet. It's not like I didn't know about the movie. Since the popular song 'Saibo' introduced this movie, I knew it existed, but I avoided it for some reason. I still feel guilty about that!
Although Krishna D.K. directed this movie, the more I see of this duo Raj and DK, the more respect I have for their work. Honestly, this duo is a real find. The kind of attention to detail they put into the script is extraordinary. They write brilliant scripts, have amazing characters, and have perfect beautiful locations.
If you haven't seen this movie, I strongly urge you to do so. It won't disappoint you!
