Shanghai/2012
It is dreadful that sometimes you read some absurd scenarios or watch some fiction like ‘Black Mirror’ and suddenly you watch that the reality around you looks the same! It happened to me when I saw this film again on Amazon Prime.
Things like if you do anything against the ‘IBP project’ you would die.Fanatics rioting in the city. Poor people have to migrate from their own home in the name of ‘Vikas’, rich people become richer and if someone has an opinion which doesn’t suit you, kill him/her! Rub black colour on someone’s face. You may be familiar with this kind of situation in real life but this is the story of Shanghai and any resemblance with places or characters to the real is just a coincidence. All things shown in the movie are works of fiction.[ Haha! Well done Dibakar]
Some scenes shocked me to the core! The youth dance many times on the fake pride of the political party unaware that they are the first line of victims here! Trusting someone as God! There is a crime branch investigation going on from the school where students are playing basketball! But there is hope too in this movie, people like T.A. Krishnan, Jogi and Dr Ahmedi, who makes you believe that you can’t run away from this chaos and then having a discussion on the cup of coffee about What should India do? You have to be there, you have to fight, you have to become part of the system. That is how your city will become Shanghai one day!
If you are still reading this then there is a tip for you. Many of you have seen this movie, just watch this movie again and watch the different colour pallets used for a particular scene. Different shades of yellow when Kalki wakes up from the nightmare when the murderer tells his side of the story. Observe closely they are marvellous!
